What a WoF is
A Warrant of Fitness (WoF) is a mandatory safety inspection required for all vehicles on New Zealand roads. It confirms your vehicle meets the minimum safety standards set by the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, covering everything from brakes and tyres to lights and steering.
Our European WoF service
At Prime AutoBase, we carry out thorough WoF inspections on European vehicles – including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, and more. Our technicians understand the specific engineering and safety systems fitted to European models, so nothing gets missed.
Brake performance and condition front and rear, plus tyre tread (a minimum of 1.5mm), condition and correct fitment - the items that stop you safely.
Headlights, brake lights, indicators, hazards and reflectors all checked for operation and correct alignment so you're seen and signalling clearly.
Steering, shock absorbers, springs and suspension components inspected for wear, play or damage that affects control and stability.
Windscreen, wipers and washers, mirrors, doors, seatbelts and structural condition (including rust in critical areas) checked against WoF standards.

A WoF confirms your vehicle meets minimum safety standards on the day of inspection – it is not a mechanical guarantee or a substitute for regular servicing. If we find anything that needs attention, we’ll explain it clearly and can usually put it right in the same visit.
Many workshops can inspect your vehicle but can’t carry out the repairs themselves, leaving you to organise a separate booking elsewhere.
